Worlds Biggest Play Day!

Worlds Biggest Play Day!

Reporter: Denise Niit visits the Stickers Practice Group from the Gold Coast of Australia. 1 Looking back a year ago, I was only just looking in to joining Quantum Savvy and was asked to attend the WBPD which was themed a day at the beach. My confidence level at the point was zero so the fear of the unknown held me back from attending and I am sure I missed an absolutely wonderful day. Now one year on and working on level 1 had given me the confidence to attend this years play day with the Stickers Practice Group. This year was themed “A Day at the Races”. The world biggest play day is about getting as many members, basic members, auditors all together on one day to unite in strength and show how Quantum Savvy is growing and just how far all of us have come. I attended the day at the RDA at Arundel that was organised by Belinda Bass the Stickers Group Organizer. On arrival we had a parade of riders and leaders to pick the best dressed and everyone had put in some imagination in to their outfit. Next we had some races with imagination and then we all tried the obstacle course that showed the skills we were all learning through our levels. Some were level 1 and some level 2 but it didn’t matter where you were at with your skills because the enthusiasm and encouragement from the rest of the group helped everyone through the course.

Area: Glenormiston Nth, VictoriaGlenormiston Nth, Victoria
Horse: Max, 9yo QH (with spots !)
Level Achieved: Level 1, working on Level 2.

Goals:
To be develop true rapport with Max so that we can go anywhere, do anything, and to be able to share the knowledge that I have gained with others.

Horsie background:
I don’t know where my love of horses came from, but I have always loved them. My grandfather used to tell me stories of how he would visit the Police Barracks in St Kilda Rd (Melbourne) and watch the mounted police when he was just a boy and I dreamed of being a Victoria’s first mounted policewoman! Even though my grandfather never had a horse, let alone rode, he encouraged my interest by sending me on holidays to stay with friends in Tasmania who bred Arabs and I could get my “horsey” fix. My first horse was a lovely part Arab mare from the stud but unfortunately due to a tragic accident, we didn’t have very much time together.

Group - Cawarral PG
Area: Nth of Rockhampton Qld Australia
Group Formed: September 2006
Level: Working on level 1
Horse: Bullwinkle Bay Quarter Horse Aged 16 (Bully) and Spirit Studbook Palomino Arab- Aged 3
Quantum Savvy Student: Since June 2006

Horsie Background:
I was first introduced to horses when I was 17 at a trail riding centre which did not turn out so well. I have always liked horses but never had the opportunity to be with them until my daughter bought a horse and I decided to have some lessons. After owning a couple of horses that weren’t really suitable for me, I ended up with Bully who did have a few problems but who also showed me that working with horses was a better deal. I bought him from people with a natural background which I hadn’t heard of before. It peaked my curiosity and my understanding of horses and horse phsycology all started from there.

LockyersRiders_07The Lockyers Riders Practise Group

Group Organiser: Petra Doerfling
Location: Hatton Vale Qld Australia
Group Formed: July 2006

The Lockyer Riders formed in July 2006 via the Forum. I was living in Canberra at the time, but was to move to the Lockyer Valley, Qld toward the end of the year. I found out there were two QS members in the same area, so we got together via the fantastic Quantum Savvy Forum and formed the Lockyer Riders.

We first met when I attended the GO conference at the QSSC in July 2006. Vicki Marr from the Bellarine Brumbies and I drove to Hatton Vale in the Lockyer Valley and met Mel, her family and Zoe. They went out of their way to make us welcome.

Level Achieved: With Patrick Level 1 and half of Level 2! With Bobby Level 2.

Goals:

To be the best that we can be and to be inspirational to others just by doing.

Horsie background:

Late starter. Did not have a horse until the good age of 30 and chose this as something to do with my then young children. Knew absolutely nothing about them only that they were magnificent and that I wanted to be a part of their world. Never went to pony club or any type of schooling until years later when I discovered where I wanted to be and where it felt right for me and my best friends.

Group - Horse ‘N’ Around PG
Area: Bunbury WA Australia
Group Formed: September 2006
Level: Working on level 1
Horse: Arab x paint called Tasha the Basha (have 11 more including some brand new foals)
Quantum Savvy Student: Since June 2006

Horsie Background:
Was born around horses. Family bred trotters and it just started from there. Loved watching the western films, and always wanted to ride like the Indians. Did showing, one day eventing and western. Now breed coloured welsh/arabs.

Why you started with Quantum Savvy:
I have tried a few other ‘natural’ horsemanship type programmes and instructors and although I enjoyed the idea and the things I learnt I didn’t really feel that I was making the kind of progress I would have liked and although I felt I had some skills I wanted to feel more confident with my horses. I felt I needed a new beginning and a better under- standing of horsemanship. My hubby’s cousin Veronica Clifton (Ronnie)’s pamphlets of horseman- ship and what she was achieving with Quantum Savvy showed me what I needed to hear so I took the plunge and started. I loved it so much I started a Practise Group almost straight away and now I get to practise and share it with my friends too!!!

Gungahlin Whisperers Practice Group

Quantum Savvy Practice Group Interview- Jan 2008

GungahlinWhisperers_07The Gungahlin Whisperers Practise Group

Group Organiser: Dorinda Lillington
Location: Canberra ACT Australia
Group Formed: September 2005

The Gungahlin Horse Whisperers started when Petra, aka Stubby, was searching for a way to get a better communication with her horse Stubby. She conscripted her neighbour and a few others and the Whisperers had formed.

Petra then organized an RFT clinic in Murrumbateman in April 2006. Along with regular Whisperer members, we also had a few new people join in for the weekend to ride and watch. We all wanted to find a way to work safely with our horses and to have fun rather than being worried about the dreaded ‘what ifs’! The RFT clinic opened our eyes to what was possible as we even attempted some level two tasks, even though we were still working on level one.
