Horsie Background:I have always loved being round horses. I used to drive my dear departed dad crazy always asking for a pony and how I could keep it in the garage. I have had lessons all through my childhood. I didn’t ride for many years until my daughter “Louise” was bitten by the horse bug. When she was about 10 yrs old I started taking her for lessons with me for about 5 yrs. Again I fell away. My MATILDA came about when my friend got me going to lessons with her again. After 6 lessons I thought, “Mmmm it would be cheaper if I got my own horse then I could ride all week for the same price as a 1 hour lesson. So I ran out and bought Matilda.
Why you started with Quantum Savvy: Well!! Things started going wrong after having Matilda for 2 ½ years. Everything was fine out; happy hacks etc. I got a few dressage, jumping lessons, all was fine. Then I moved yards, (to improve my riding) 3 weeks later the yard came down with strangles. She was stabled for 7 weeks and got a lot out of control and I got scared of her “party tricks”. Anyway I had her up for sale and then I found QS. I moved back to Meadow Park and stared to write on the forum and watch the downloads. I began to practice lessons 1and 2 and it was then people were getting curious as to what I was doing. The changes in Matilda were showing. I was getting more confidence and was being calmer and it showed in her too.
Goals:To have a well-mannered, safe horse. My ultimate goal is to pass all levels in QS and maybe teach. I‘d also like to make more people aware that there are alternative ways to teach a horse manners and how to have fun with their horse rather than constantly making demands on them.
Claim to fame:Hosting a terrific RFT clinic in July this year and hopefully another one in 2008.
What drives you? When we make progress and I see light at the other end of the tunnel, the determination to finish what I start. It is too easy to walk away when things get a bit tough. When I think I nearly sold Matilda and where we are now I would have regretted it forever.
Anything else you’d like to add: We can only learn when we make mistakes. We think we are doing well until something goes wrong and that is when the theory becomes practice and it doesn’t always go by the book either! There is always help out there, you’ve just got to try finding it.
