What makes Quantum Savvy Horsemanship different?

QS horsemanship uses a method called "Release Focused Training". Release Focused Training (RFT) is a simple methodology that focuses on how humans communicate with horses and how horses perceive humans, rather than trying to fix or train the horse directly. It emphasizes learning the language of the horse and developing effective communication between horse and human. Unlike conventional training that uses pressure to make the horse do something, RFT teaches people to focus on release to teach horses. It involves asking the horse to do something by giving clear direction and options, then offering immediate release or relief when the horse tries, which builds the horse's confidence, trust, and understanding. This approach uses very little pressure and is about educating the horse's mind as well as training its body.

RFT is not about blaming the horse if things don't go as expected; instead, it looks at how the human communicates and the timing of their release. The principle is that horses learn not when pressure is applied, but when it is released. Horses are comfort-seeking animals and will do what is necessary to escape pressure, learning from when they find release. Therefore, humans need to learn to stop, let go, trust, and release to help horses make sense of what is asked of them. This teaches the horse through clarity, fairness, and consistency, leading to a willing, soft, and responsive partner rather than one that reacts negatively to pressure.
